At Roseneath we share the passion for horses. Both Drew and Fionna have many years experience with horses but come from very different backgrounds.
As a younger man Drew rode in Mountain races and the occasional Cattelmans Cup. But as the sport diminished his passion for fast horses didn't so he pursued the dream of owning race horses. Drew has bred race horses for a number of years. Having some success with his home bred gelding Jugahnaut. From as young as 14 Drew began to teach himself the ways of breaking and starting young horses, and now with may years experience under his belt he has started a wide variety of horses from Shetlands to Thoroughbreds to Warmbloods and even the occasional Clydesdale and the very interesting task or handling some very grumpy mules. Drew is fast becoming recognised as a versatile horseman with skills in several disciplines.
Drew has owned his own cabinet making business for the last 25 years and is now focusing on horses.
Drew continues with his own skill development has attended clinic with Ian Saunders, Warren Backhouse, Shaun Saunders and Trapper Lowndes.
Drew was selected as a finalist for the Equitana 2014 The Way of the Horse Competition. Unfortunatley due to the allocation of a very tough little head shy horse in the Audition he was not selected for the competition. Drew was very pleased with the work he did with the horse on the day and set the horse on the right path for its future.
Fionna had the very traditional start in Pony Club and then went on to hacking and then to dressage. With several years of not much riding Fionna worked for Ridley AgriProducts (Barastoc) and learned the importance of good nutrition for all horses. Whilst working for Ridley, Fionna was afforded the opportunity to attend the Athens Olympic Games. She was behind the scenes with Kentucky Equine Research and assisted in the provision of feed and bedding for the Olympic horses.
Fionna has spent a number of years training and competing with her mare Marilyn in dressage and has now made the change to Reining and Western.
Fionna reviews each horses diet and health on arrival and makes certain that all horses are well kept whilst being started.
Horses are a family affair, both Nicole & Max enjoyed their time at pony club and now Cody & Nate are both very keen and have ponies that they ride regularly and attend Pony Club with.
